Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 21, 2026
Your Privacy Matters
ExoCare is committed to being transparent about how we handle your data. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep things plain and honest, no dense legalese, just straight answers.
1. Introduction
Welcome to ExoCare, an exotic pet care mobile application and service created by Andrea Houston. ExoCare is designed to support exotic pet owners with species-specific care guides, husbandry tracking, feeding and health logs, educational content, and personalized reminders, all in one place.
We understand that your trust is essential. This Privacy Policy describes how ExoCare collects, uses, shares, and safeguards your personal information when you use our app and related services. It also explains the rights you have over your data and how to exercise them.
By using ExoCare, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app and contact us to request deletion of any data we may hold.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to deliver a great experience for you and your exotic pets. The types of information we collect fall into three categories:
2a. Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account, build a pet profile, or interact with ExoCare, you may provide:
-
Account registration details: your name, email address, username, and password
-
Pet profile information: species, age, weight, enclosure setup, feeding schedules, and health notes
-
User-generated content: care logs, husbandry records, photos, and personal notes you enter into the app
-
Communications: support messages, feedback, or inquiries submitted through the app
2b. Information Collected Automatically
When you use ExoCare, certain technical data is collected automatically to keep the app running smoothly:
-
Device identifiers: device model, operating system version, and unique device ID
-
App usage data: features accessed, session duration, and in-app interactions
-
Log data: IP address, crash reports, error logs, and timestamps
-
Notification preferences: your local notification and push notification settings within the app
2c. Information from Third Parties
If you choose to sign in using a third-party account, we may receive limited information from that platform:
-
If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information — typically your name and email address — only as permitted by those platforms and with your authorization
-
Analytics providers may share aggregated, de-identified usage data to help us understand how the app is used broadly
We do not receive sensitive personal information from third-party sign-in providers beyond what is necessary to create your ExoCare account.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
-
To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity securely
-
To power core app features, including species-specific care guides, husbandry tracking, feeding logs, shedding records, vet appointment reminders, and health tracking for your exotic pets
-
To personalize educational content based on the species you keep, so your experience is relevant and useful
-
To send in-app and push notifications, including care reminders, tips, and important alerts you have opted into
-
To improve app performance, diagnose and fix bugs, and develop new features based on how users interact with ExoCare
-
To respond to support inquiries and provide customer assistance when you reach out to us
-
To comply with applicable legal obligations, including data protection laws and regulatory requirements
We will not use your information for purposes that are incompatible with those listed above without first obtaining your consent.
4. How We Share Your Information
Our Commitment
ExoCare does not sell your personal data to third parties. Your information is never traded or monetized for advertising purposes.
We may share your information only in the limited circumstances described below:
-
Service providers: We work with trusted third-party vendors for cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting, and push notification delivery. These providers are granted access to your data only as necessary to perform their services and are contractually obligated to protect it under strict data processing agreements.
-
Legal authorities: We may disclose information when required by law, a valid court order, or government authority, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of ExoCare, our users, or the public.
-
Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of ExoCare's assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected users via in-app notification or email before any such transfer takes place and explain any changes to this policy.
All third-party service providers are carefully vetted and are contractually bound to handle user data responsibly and in compliance with applicable privacy laws.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as it is needed to provide you with ExoCare's services and fulfill the purposes described in this policy:
-
Account and pet profile data is retained for as long as your account remains active
-
You may delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app settings — we will process your request promptly
-
Some anonymized, aggregated usage data may be retained after account deletion to improve the app — this data cannot be linked back to you
-
Backup and log data may be retained for up to 90 days following account deletion, after which it is permanently purged
6. Data Security
Protecting your data is a responsibility we take seriously. ExoCare implements the following security measures:
-
Industry-standard TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your device and our servers
-
Encryption at rest for data stored on our secure servers
-
Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel on a strict need-to-know basis
